Football World Cup 2006 Germany: Opening Ceremony in Munich
2006 FIFA World Cup - TÜCHLER lets the ladies fly.
For a main event of the opening ceremony for the 2006 FIFA World Cup, artists wearing 20 kg costumes were to fly beneath the 52 m high open stadium roof of the Allianz Arena in Munich.
Thus, the main question asked of TÜCHLER was how performers weighing 100 kg could be suspended from the white-blue Munich sky.
The answer was to span steel cables across the width of the stadium. These held the deflection rollers through which the 130 m long steel cables reaching from the pitch to the hoists were led. The cable winches were all BGV-C1 compliant. An effective lift of 40 m was thus created.
The cable weights were made from soft sand bags instead of the usual steel for safety and optical reasons. The special form of the 20 kg cable weights was requested by the client’s head designer and precisely implemented in TÜCHLER’s in-house foil and tarpaulin welding shop
