usage instructions and warnings for Chain Hoists!
valid from June 1, 2024
1. General safety regulations and organizational measuresThe operating instructions must always be kept readily available at the place of use for electric chain hoists/winches. The operating instructions must be followed.
In addition to the operating instructions, the general legal regulations on accident prevention and environmental protection must also be observed.
The operating and maintenance personnel must read and understand the operating instructions, especially the safety guidelines, before starting work. Protective equipment for the operating and maintenance personnel must be provided and used. The operator of the electric chain hoists/winches or their representative must supervise the safety-conscious handling of the equipment by the personnel.
The manufacturer reserves the right to make technical changes to the product or changes to this manual and assumes no liability for the completeness or up-to-dateness of this manual. The original version of this manual is in German. In case of doubt, only the German original version is valid as the reference document.
2. Special safety instructions2.1 During transport/installation:
Electric chain hoists/winches, individual parts, and larger assemblies must be carefully secured to suitable and technically sound lifting devices/rigging equipment with sufficient load capacity.
2.2 During connection:
Connections should only be made by personnel trained in the respective field.
2.3 During commissioning/operation:
Before first commissioning and daily operation, a visual inspection and the prescribed checks must be carried out.
Electric chain hoists/winches should only be operated if the existing protection and safety devices are functional.
Any damage to the electric chain hoists/winches and any changes in operating behavior must be immediately reported to the responsible person.
After switching off or stopping the electric chain hoists/winches, they must be secured against unintended and unauthorized use.
Avoid any operation that compromises safety.
3. Documentation of usage timeAs an operator, you are required to annually determine the usage time and resulting remaining service life for each chain hoist/winch and record this in the inspection book, or provide proof of standard use within the framework of service life determination. If the determination and documentation of the remaining service life are not carried out, the affected chain hoists/winches must be decommissioned after 10 years or undergo a complete overhaul, which could significantly exceed the costs of a new investment.
4. Recurring inspectionsEach device/system operator must properly record all inspections, maintenance, and revision work in the inspection book and have them confirmed by the responsible/specialist person.
ATTENTION! Equipment and cranes must be periodically inspected by a specialist. Essentially, visual and functional inspections must be performed, assessing the condition of components for damage, wear, corrosion, or other changes. Furthermore, the completeness and effectiveness of safety devices must be evaluated. Dismantling may be required to assess wear parts.
ATTENTION! Load-bearing elements must be inspected along their entire length, including concealed parts.
ATTENTION! All periodic inspections must be initiated by the operator.
5. WarrantyThe warranty will be voided if installation, operation, inspection, and maintenance are not carried out according to these operating instructions. Repairs and fault rectifications under warranty may only be performed by qualified personnel after consultation and authorization by the manufacturer/supplier. The warranty also expires if modifications are made to the product or if non-original spare parts are used.
6. National and regional regulationsPlease observe the national and regional regulations relevant to the respective application, which may differ significantly even between EU member states.
In Austria, chain hoists/winches are generally subject to the Austrian Occupational Health and Safety Act §37, §38, Austrian Workplace Equipment Regulation §8, §16, ÖVE/ÖNORM E 8701, and ÖNORM-DIN-EN 17206.
In Germany, chain hoists/winches are generally subject to the UVV, DGUV Regulation 3/4, 17/18, EN 50678:2021-02 / EN 50699:2021-06 VDE 0701/0702, and ÖNORM-DIN-EN 17206.
TÜCHLER is happy to provide all technical data upon request before purchase. It is the buyer’s responsibility to clarify the regulatory requirements before purchase. Complaints relating to the failure to meet official requirements are excluded unless their fulfillment was expressly agreed upon in a separate written contract in the individual case.
7. Consideration for climbing operation:Load capacity = nominal load - self-weight, including chain/rope.
